The Grain Warehouse Sign outside Born+Raised offices

Welcome to our new home, The Grain Warehouse, a grade II listed building on Victoria Quays in Sheffield city centre.

As you can see, it needs a bit of work, but we’ve never been the kind of people to shy away from a challenge.

We have a vision to turn this unloved and forgotten building into a truly amazing creative space that will become our permanent home.

The team took the short walk from our current HQ at Velocity House to the canal basin, to see what we’ve got ourselves into and christen the place with a few celebratory glasses of bubbly.

A new chapter

From day one, we’ve always had the huge ambition to own our own premises.

It’s hard to believe that just over four years ago we moved into a small office in Velocity House with nothing but an iMac, a cheap laptop and a desire to create a great business. As the agency developed, so did our desire to be in a place we could call our own.

That’s when we found, and fell in love with, The Grain Warehouse with it’s amazing industrial heritage and imposing steel grain hoppers.

Built around 155 years ago right on the waterfront of the Sheffield canal basin, it formed part of a group of buildings that acted as a cargo port for coal and grain.

In 1970, Victoria Quays was closed and fell into serious disrepair. It wasn’t until 1992 that Sheffield Council received funding to develop the area. The Grain Warehouse has been empty ever since and over those 22 years it became the hidden gem that it is today.

But, it’s not just the Grain Warehouse that will be getting some TLC.

Sheffield Council have some pretty ambitious plans to develop the Castlegate area of the city. These include uncovering the ancient castle ruins that are currently buried beneath the old Castle Market, creating an inner city green space around it and uncovering part of the River Don to begin creating a vibrant riverside culture in the heart of the city.

It certainly sounds like that long forgotten and forlorn part of Sheffield could be transformed into something special. And we’ll be right in the middle of it all.

We’ll keep you up to date with our development of The Grain Warehouse and the Castlegate area, so pop back to see how we’re getting on. In the meantime, here are some before pictures. We’ll hopefully have some after ones to show you soon.

Wish us luck, we’re definitely going to need it!
